I’m Jove Spucchi, an interdisciplinary artist working across performance, sound and computational media. Through ritual gatherings, moving images and interactive software, I explore how desire and shared attention shape who we can become.

About my practice.

Sound

I compose sound for music, video, performance and ritual. My practice centers on animating bodies: how sound finds expression through movement and changes the feeling of a space. Drawing on Butoh, I dance as I compose, testing how my body can inhabit a track. Each track offers its own serpent to ride, or another twist in the slither.

jouissance

I made every sound in jouissance through custom synthesis in SuperCollider, then mastered it in Ableton. Pitch slides and risers explore comfort and discomfort, agony and ecstasy, and the sexiness in the afterglow of pain. The brutalism of code becoming beautiful sound is part of the work.

The Calling Of The She Snake (Jove Spucchi's Slither Rework)

I made this with Sasha Ravitch as a collaborative propitiation of a serpentine spirit to the dance floor. She recorded her ritual singing; I chopped and screwed the vocal, with few added effects, building the rhythms and the rest of the track around her serpentine voice. I hear moments of shedding like snakeskin, the track riding that serpent as a ghost.

Slither also describes the ebbs and flows of a shared club night. Even the DJ is not necessarily in control; I think of everyone as riding the same vibe, a collective altered state with or without substances.

I compose within astrologically elected windows and use planetary correspondences to shape sonic textures.

Vocal recording: Sasha Ravitch. Music and production: Jove Spucchi. Source work credited on the release: Venter Viperae, The Calling of the She Snake. Release on Red Appetite.

office_mindfuck_beat

office_mindfuck_beat moves from drafted emails and diagnostic commands to group chats, warehouse beats and the dance floor. Through it, I explore how nightlife lets us move between personas and find forms of expression that everyday working life leaves little room for. The track developed alongside my visual poem, Checksum Drifter. Both connect to my writing on ecstasis, nightlife and becoming.

Queer Nightlife, Ritual Practice, and the Parties We Kept Alive (2011–Present)

A queer nightlife practice that began with cautious BYU gatherings and grew through clubs, homes, outdoor sites, and fifteen years of dancing together.

Ekstasis as Method

Nightlife, Butoh, and the Practice of Leaving the Self

What queer dance floors, butoh, and group ritual have taught me about leaving the ordinary self without losing one another.
