A garden between domains

Written 27 September 2026 · Published 16 October 2026

I built Garden around attention as a condition for growth. Visits, lingering, hovering and clicking feed the system; links let resources travel between nodes and gardens. What surprised me was the traffic I hadn’t anticipated. I couldn’t always tell where it came from or what it was doing, but it helped parts of the garden persist. I began to think of this as attentional weather: a digital environment with activity beyond the attention I had invited. Amid talk of the web rotting, I wanted to ask what could grow from that activity.

By April, those relations also ran through the address. A generated subdomain carried a lineage of enclosing names; a certificate gave that place an identity the browser could recognize. DNS became a way to compose intersecting spaces, with the security handshake part of entering one.

A later September experiment extends disappearance from a fragment to a whole garden. Its endpoint closes while a neighboring garden keeps its own note about it. The trace belongs to the neighbor, and cannot restore the lost place.

A living neighbor garden retains its note after its linked source is marked gone.
