Offering, watering, returning

Written 27 September 2026 · Published 28 October 2026

The May specification reduced the Garden to five actions: arrive, offer, water, return, see change. I wanted someone to learn the place through what they could do there.

“Offer” and “water” shape the relation to a fragment. One places something in a shared environment; the other attends to what is already there. The words only earn their place if the actions have different consequences.

At this stage the loop was a specification. The next test was to make returning reveal a changed condition, so that a person could connect an earlier gesture with what remained. Repeated visits should accumulate a relationship, not just a count.

The Garden’s phone-width Offer dialog has text, audio and image choices, an empty text field, and a notice that public offerings may change or fade.

A later form of the May specification: the Garden’s Offer interface on 23 October 2026, shown at phone width. The form was inspected without submitting an offering.
